A Flexible Design System Supporting Four Brand Voices

Long-term collaboration across four brands, balancing structure, personality, and room to grow.

For years, I’ve worked alongside Modern Species and Wakunaga of America supporting marketing design and strategy across their four primary brands: Kyolic, Kyo-Dophilus, Kyo-Green, and Moducare. While packaging and logos are developed internally, I’m often brought in to extend each brand into brochures, sales materials, advertising, trade show booth design, and major product launches.

The recent launch of Kyolic Mushrooms+ supplements meant updating the Kyolic product catalog to highlight and reflect the new depth of their lines.

The work requires balancing creativity and cohesion — allowing each brand to speak clearly to its audience while reinforcing trust across the broader Wakunaga portfolio.

From brand systems to marketing support and all points in-between.

Rather than approaching each project as a standalone piece, we treat the portfolio as a system. Square-format brochures, ad campaigns, and launch materials are built on a shared structural foundation of similar grids, typography, and hierarchy treatments.

Within that structure, each brand maintains its own tone and visual distinction. When new mushroom formulations were introduced for the flagship Kyolic brand, the focus was on integrating them seamlessly into the existing ecosystem — ensuring the expansion felt like a natural evolution rather than a departure.

That same systems thinking carries through to distributor-facing sell sheets, where clarity and practicality lead. Multiple SKUs, benefits, and ordering details are organized to support real sales conversations while preserving brand credibility.

Scalable execution and budget-friendly templates.

We’ve also consulted on social media and Amazon storefront graphics, creating template systems the internal team can populate independently. This approach protects visual consistency while keeping long-term budgets efficient.

The result is steady brand evolution — structured, scalable, and built to support growth without unnecessary reinvention.

It’s also a long-term partnership built on mutual trust and shared standards. Strong teams, meaningful products, and a real belief in the work they’re doing — improving people’s health in tangible ways — continue to make the collaboration feel purposeful, not just productive.

Reach Out & Let’s Work Together

We received the official word from the USDA that the TOPP program (and the Organic Market Development Grant program) are safe.

I am confident that the work that the Modern Species team did to bring together stories from TOPP made the difference to our efforts.

THANK YOU so much for your work, vision, speed, and – for the high-functioning TEAM effort.
